I know a lot of you were shocked about the current 200 SG Fee added to our tuition fee. Some have 200 while others have 100 due to a system glitch. Nevertheless, some details regarding the SG Fee have already been explained on the SG’s Facebook page.
I’ve seen some posts asking why there is an SG Fee when RSOs already have allocated budgets, yet there are still contributions during events. Just to clarify, there is a fixed allocated budget per RSO monthly, both for academic and non-academic organizations. This budget is meant to support the performance and initiatives of each RSO. However, there may still be additional contributions for certain events, depending on the needs and decisions of each organization.
Each RSO has its own way of managing and utilizing their monthly budget, depending on the projects and activities they prioritize. With that, transparency is very important—RSOs should always provide proper financial reports so members are aware of where the budget and contributions are being allocated.
Other NU campuses also have their own SG Fee included in the tuition, and allocations may vary per campus. There are also other ways for RSOs to generate funds to help lessen contributions for events, such as coordinating with advisers, program chairs, and deans.
The SG is open to further discussions regarding the SG Fee through proper channels. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to them. Let’s remain respectful and mindful with our words when raising concerns. After all, we are all students here, and we should be helping one another.
Thank you!
