i get your point pero hindi rin fair na i-dismiss agad as “settling for less.” hindi lang naman presence ang usapan dito, competence din. students have every right to demand someone who can actually do the job, hindi yung matututo pa lang habang nasa posisyon na.
kasi totoo naman, paano mo haharapin admin at dean kung basic questions pa lang hindi masagot nang maayos? hindi ito training ground, responsibility ito. hindi pwedeng trial and error habang hawak mo yung boses ng buong college.
pero at the same time, abstain doesn’t magically solve that problem either. wala ka ngang “unprepared,” pero wala ka rin representation. so ang ending, students still lose.
kaya kung may takeaway man dito, it’s that both sides reflect a gap. kulang sa prepared candidates, pero mataas din ang expectation ng studentry. so instead na gawing excuse yung “better to have none,” maybe the focus should be on raising the standard while also creating space for people to actually grow into the role before they run.
kasi kung ganito lagi, we either settle for someone people don’t trust or end up with no one at all. parehong talo ang students.
