Just some food for thought for the people on here dunking on Collingwood, Trevs or Cuths for training a lot for the results they get:
(For the record, I’m not from any of those three, I just think this is kinda pertinent)
Yeah, the top colleges train a lot. Don’t know about the 14 sessions a week rumour that’s been going around, but I know the Cuths 1V worked hard this season. It’s why they’ve improved. Since when did working hard become something to make fun of? So they had a tough result at HoRR, does that mean all the training they did this year has been meaningless? Obviously not. And I’ll tell you why. (Again, sorry to produce a TED talk, just think this is important)
I was told this by an old coach, and it stuck with me: you’ve got to love the process, not just the result. Most of the petty bickering and snide commentary directed at the top three colleges, I can only assume, comes from a few rowers in the other colleges, jealous and resentful that they can’t turn out the same results, and so make little of what Collingwood, Cuths and Trevs manage to achieve. But they’re kind of missing the point. Those crews do well because they enjoy the process - the training, the ergs, the effort it takes to be able to row well as a crew. Obviously the results matter, but the training itself is more than just a means to an end.
So, if you want to be improve, or even just enjoy the sport - stop ridiculing other crews for their results, and start focussing on your own process. Eyes in the boat, people.
