#BoardgameConfessionMalaysia32 I used to love playing board games. Always excited to try new games, new mechanics, relax playing party games or crack my head with some strategy games. Sometimes my group even play until midnight. But recently, I started to realise that it is not the game that has the problem, it is who you are playing with, or maybe it is just the culture. It's so ironic to say this, but I feel like board games aren't always inclusive. Board gamers love to pretend they are, but in real life? not so much. Try being a beginner, sit down at the table with some experienced veterans playing a game when you ask questions about words that you have never heard before, like trick-taking or push your luck. Or when in a coop game, after your move is followed by a discussion between other players on why it's wrong. You're not playing the game anymore, you're just a pawn in someone else's perfect strategy. I won't even go into elitism. If you don't know the designer of Brass, or if you say you like some party game that isn't in the top 100 of BGG, you're looked at like a clown. newsflash! Not everyone wants to min-max every turn of every euro game. Some of us just want to laugh and chill. I'm not saying every group is like that. I've had amazing experiences, and I've also met truly patient and nice players. But I can't help to feel that our community (especially the hardcore side) is starting to lose sight of what brought most of us in, fun and connection. Sometimes I wonder if board games are becoming less about playing with people, but playing against them. still love the hobby, but these days, I'm just more selective with who I sit at the table with.

#BoardgameConfessionMalaysia30 Planned for a couple weeks in advance, to play a complex game, everyone given the rules from BGG. Everyone knows its going to be a whole day kinda thing. And there's that one fella' who will come late by an hour, never read the rules, an has to leave by 4( we started at 1 pm) eventhough said person has confirmed that it'll be a whole day till night thing.

Trying soooo hard to influence people to do dis do dat la, buy dis don't buy dat la, play dis don't play dat la, sumore unnecessary opinions that nobody gives af. Like "duta" means bajet² influencer. Trying so hard to make themselve seem valid.

#BoardgameConfessionMalaysia27 I swear, if I have to sit through one more Catan game with the same group arguing about sheep trades like it's a stock market crash, I'm going to start flipping tiles. Y’all really call yourselves board gamers but only rotate between Catan, 7 Wonders, and Wingspan like you're curating the Louvre of mediocrity. Maybe try something with actual tension or player interaction? There are literally hundreds of amazing games out there, but some of you treat your starter strategy games like a religion. Update your shelf. Update your taste. Save your friendships.
