Did they even consider the fact that most of the students arent even able to travel to school, given this unfortunate event and the fact that MULTIPLE people experienced their house being damaged, witnessing their loved once being taken away, and much more things that can indicate the fact that those people are not mentally sound enough to even travel to school. to add, for some people, travelling is inaccessable to those who has been severely affected by the earthquake and the after effects. how do they expect them to be able to attend school with no absence, like do you want them to fly? in addition to this, multiple performance tasks are due and students— like i said— are not yet mentally stable enough to function in class and actively participate. I remember one time, it was heavily raining and multiple people’s houses were flooding, most of them were unable to travel— what the school did was not cancel the classes, it was to not mark them late. like holy fucking shit, is that all the effort the administrators are gonna do to the students, and i know this is not comparable to the earthquake but still it just shows how apathetic our administrators are. Even if the buildings are structurally sound, what about the students? the school claims to be a catholic school, ready to give help to those unfortunate, but isn’t that just a front? I don’t even thing the administrators have any empathy towards their students and faculty. To add, what is the reason behind the resumption of classes even when knowing that student’s are not yet mentally okay, some families literally cannot access transportation to school due to damaged homes, blocked roads, or lack of transportation. Yet they are expecting “normal” attendance is unfair to those affected by the earthquake. To add, those who are able to attend classes still are not mentally okay after the earthquake. No one takes 1 day to recover from a traumatic event. They most likely still are not able to process what is said or taught to them, so what is the use of attending school? Catholic school especially should be living out its own values: compassion, care for the vulnerable, and understanding in times of crisis.
