Maybe High School Students Shouldn’t Be In Relationships Right Now
Not because that having a crush is bad, or that we’re are incapable of caring about someone. But high school is the time when we’re trying to figure out who we are, what we want, and where we’re going.
Relationships can bring expectations, jealousy, drama, emotional pressure, emotional dependence, and distractions on top of everything we’re dealing with. And for what? To say you had a boyfriend/girlfriend before graduating? Or to flex that you have “experience” with relationships? It’s understandable that we teenagers want to explore things since we’re curious and wanna experience something but our brains aren’t fully developed yet until we’re 25.
Having a crush is normal. Finding someone attractive because you like their looks or personality is fine. But every crush shouldn't be turned into a relationship.
Being single isn’t embarrassing. You aren't behind. You aren’t “missing out” like what people might say to you. and you shouldn't feel pressured to be in a rela just because others are doing it. Not all things people do arr always right. There is absolutely nothing wrong with waiting until you’re older, more mature, and more independent before getting into something serious.
High school is temporary, but our relationship with ourself lasts longer.
