#MMLLfess3686 #MMLLfess3685 "Skills/knowledge in something alongside their degree". Well, that doesn't sound vague at all. We all believe you have multiple job offers hun, just keep telling yourself that x

#MMLLfess3685 Silly billies fight about which degrees are employable. Sensible people take the chance to cultivate good people skills and get some form of truly relevant experience and demonstrable skills/knowledge in something they enjoy alongside their degree and don't count on waltzing out of Cambridge and straight into a job just on the back of an irrelevant degree which gave them only vaguely transferrable skills. I love MMLL but lets not delude ourselves now. Signed, a finalist with multiple job offers xx

#MMLLfess3684 Please someone tell me what the Part II speaking exam is like. What’s the format, what sort of questions do they ask, how generously is it marked etc?

#MMLLfess3682 The "linguistics students are more employable" argument is quite odd because I'd imagine that if there is a significant difference (which I don't really imagine there is; they're both humanities degrees at the end of the day) then it would be MML degrees that are more employable. In addition to the critical thinking skills which all humanities degrees provide you with, you also gain the so-called "hard" skills of proficiency (hopefully) in at least two foreign languages and an international cultural awareness, both skills that are highly valued in various industries. I imagine that the OP was trying to suggest that linguistics is more employable because it's more scientific. But unless you're going to do postgraduate studies to become a researcher, or become a TEFL teacher, this probably will not be the advantage you think it is when it comes to applying for grad jobs. Most non-linguistics do not have a very clear idea of what a Linguistics degree actually entails.

#MMLLfess3678 #MMLLfess3674 Jesussss, you grow up and realise some people actually need them lol. Yes its bs when someone who doesn't need them has got them, but for those of us who actually need rest breaks due to chronic pain (which often leaves me unable to move when I have a flare up), rest breaks are the least we can get if we cannot physically sit through an exam for that long. Just because you have a friend who scammed the system doesn't mean you can make such raging generalisations. I wouldn't exactly say me being bed-bound and unable to walk is 'having it easy'
