#TALIPSFreedomWall23461 Hi! This is a genuine question, and I’m not asking this to tolerate or defend anyone. My classmates and I recently had a discussion about the recent posts on the freedom wall. Interestingly, despite coming from different first-year sections, several of our ProfEd professors (yes) taught us that, since college students are consenting adults, a romantic relationship between a professor and a student is not inherently wrong as long as it is consensual. Because of that, I wanted to ask: where does the University draw the line in situations like these? If both parties are consenting adults and the relationship is entirely consensual, but it becomes an issue because of public perception or third-party reports, how does SASO assess these situations? I also want to understand this from a broader perspective: I know that even if something is not illegal, it doesn’t automatically mean it is morally appropriate. We are taught to still exercise a strong moral compass in situations like this. So in cases where there is consent, is it still considered wrong in the University’s view, and how is that distinction explained or justified when it is not necessarily “illegal” but may still raise ethical concerns, especially given the power dynamics involved? I ask this because the perspective we learned from some of our own ProfEd professors seems different from the concerns being raised now. Given that this was also taught in our professional education classes, how should students understand and assess situations like these? What is the University’s official position when there appears to be a difference between what some students have been taught and how these cases are being viewed? Thank you! #TALIPSFreedomWall23453 Hello sa mga students sa PNU na galit na galit dahil puro may Latin honors ang BPHED. I honestly don’t get it. Lahat naman tayo may kanya-kanyang piniling major, and we chose the path we believed we could handle and, most importantly, the one we really wanted. So, why be bitter about it? Hindi lang naman kami puro “laro” o “sayaw.” We also took General Education and Professional Education courses before we fully focused on our major. And even when we were already in our major, may academic courses pa rin kami. Hindi rin biro at hindi rin madaling pagsabay-sabayin lahat. We had to balance our academic courses, sports, dance, and even our own sports and dance practices after class, tapos aral ulit dahil may facilitation, research, lesson plans, and other requirements pa. Lagi rin kaming kailangan ng university for different events and activities. And outside academics, may buhay rin kami beyond BPHED. We also have organizations, community programs, outreach activities, volunteer work, and other responsibilities outside school. BPHED is just one part of who we are. Hindi lang kami students na pumapasok, naglalaro, sumasayaw, at umuuwi. We have other responsibilities, interests, commitments, and things we do beyond our course and beyond the university. Kaya sana huwag naman kami i-reduce sa “BPHED lang” or “laro at sayaw lang.” Hindi man pare-pareho ang nature at difficulty ng bawat program, hindi ibig sabihin na mas madali na agad ang isa kaysa sa iba. We took this course because this is what we genuinely wanted, and we worked hard for it. And kapag nag-apply na kami as teachers, MAPEH ang ituturo namin. Akala mo ba madali lang magturo ng apat na subjects? You have to handle different areas, prepare lessons, facilitate activities, assess students, and sometimes even handle school events. Hindi siya basta “laro at sayaw” lang. At please, huwag din nating i-compare o bastusin ang ibang courses tulad ng Criminology na parang wala silang kwenta. Pinaghihirapan din nila ang field nila, just like everyone else. Hindi naman kailangan maliitin ang ibang major para ma-appreciate ang pinili natin. Hindi rin naman namin kasalanan kung may mga nakakakuha ng Latin honors. They worked for it. If someone earned that recognition, then let them have it. Hindi naman nababawasan ang achievement ng ibang students dahil may ibang nagkaroon ng Latin honors. I just hope you will be able to understand things first before choosing to hate or invalidate someone else's achievements. We all have different strengths, interests, workloads, responsibilities, and paths. Hindi naman kailangang pare-pareho tayo para respetuhin ang achievements ng isa't isa. Congratulations to everyone who worked hard for their degree, whether may Latin honors or wala. We all deserve to be proud of what we accomplished. Naikwento mo sa akin iyon kasama ng cof natin kaya alam ko na. Pero ewan ko, gusto ko pa rin talaga umamin, kapag handa na ako sa lahat. Kapag handa na ako alisan ka.
